Overdue General Life Update November 2014 Edition

So the last time I did a life-y update kind of thing was right before I got married, and some things have happened since then. I figured it’s about time for another one!

Getting married was not really much of a life upheaval, and I can’t decide if that’s surprising or not! But, truth be told, nothing really changed between Matt and me. We already lived together (already moved across the country together), and we’ve pretty much always treated each other like forever life partners (which was why we had two false starts, since at those first attempts I don’t think either of us was quite ready for that). Honestly, the biggest change was trying to explain our new last names to everyone–we both added a new name and it confused the hell out of some people.

We are looking at getting me onto his company insurance plan though. O_O

Our honeymoon to Scotland was pretty much the greatest, and after getting back we moved to a new apartment and life picked up where it left off.

I have been becoming more involved with I Have a Dream Oregon and volunteering in some of their programs, which has been very fun–I mean, reading to kids and seeing them get really excited about books is honestly the best thing.

The biggest changes in my life over the past few months have been professional ones. Just this week, I resigned from Curiosity Quills Press after a productive and educational year. I’ll be completing the projects I’m already committed to, and then it’ll be time to focus on building my career in other avenues.

black dog and bear smallThe foremost of those avenues is Bear and Black Dog Editing, my freelance editing company with Ashlynn Yuhas. We are currently accepting new clients for full developmental and line edits, as well as submission help via our partial and reader report packages. And for those of you participating in NaNoWriMo, keep an eye on our Twitter @Bear_BlackDog–we’ll be announcing something special for you soon!

Speaking of NaNoWriMo, I’ll also be the Articles Coordinator for next year’s National Novel Editing Month! NaNoEdMo takes place in March, giving you plenty of time to let your NaNo novel breathe before you take that red pen to it. I’ll be soliciting articles soon, but if you’re interested go ahead and email me at caitspiveyauthor [at] gmail.com with “NaNoEdMo Article” in the subject.

I’ve also started an internship assisting literary agent Saritza Hernandez with managing her query inbox and basically anything else she or the team at Corvisiero Lit needs. I’m loving every minute of it so far!

I do still contract editorial services to REUTS Publications; they’re currently my only small press commitment (outside of the ongoing projects I’m finishing with CQ). Remember, though, that I’m not in acquisitions at REUTS, so please, if you’re interested in querying me there, direct your query to Editorial Director Kisa Whipkey instead!

Grey rough textured wall backgroundI’ve got a lot of things going in my writing career. As you probably know, A SINGLE THREAD just released! This book is the second in my paranormal novella series, but it can be read as a stand-alone–and I promise, no spiders.

I’m submitting FROM UNDER THE MOUNTAIN to small presses, after a major overhaul and a lot of thought about just how much control I want over this, the first full length manuscript I’ve written.

I’m now querying THE LONGING AND THE LACK, the first in an NA horror trio (not a trilogy–they’re stand-alone books that loosely connect). I’m looking forward to this process and hoping for good news in the coming months.

You can track my progress on all of these projects in the sidebar, or under the Projects tab at the top of the page.

Also, it was just Halloween, and you guys know how much I loooove Halloween.

So that’s pretty much where my life is right now. What’s new with you guys?
